In stepping forward with the lead gift toward construction of Memorial Hospital of Union County’s Women’s Health Center, The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company’s philanthropic gift was honored today, July 18, 2005. From this day forward, the community hospital’s obstetrics department, which fills the upper level of the center, will be known as The Miracle Life Center.Upon entering the new facility, guests will read “Life…The Purest Form of a Miracle” reflecting, of course, the welcoming of babies and a reminder of Scotts’ gift and their core business of enhancing lawn and garden life.
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company’s gift of $500,000 was supplemented by a $100,000 donation provided by the Hagedorn family, in honor of their mother, Margaret (Peggy) Gibbons O’Keefe Hagedorn. One of her six children, Jim Hagedorn, is the Chairman and CEO of Scotts. He represented both the company and his family at the dedication event.
“The Scotts Company has been very supportive of Memorial Hospital for years,” comments Chip Hubbs, Memorial’s president and CEO. “As residents of the same larger community, they have continued to understand our need to expand with the community’s growth and they have generously provided support where they can.
Memorial Hospital, an independent community hospital located in Marysville, Ohio, completed construction of the $6 million, 24,000 square foot facility in the fall of 2004. In addition to the two gifts honored in the ceremony, the hospital received generous financial support from Honda of America Mfg., Inc, The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Midwest Express, Inc.; Transportation Research Center, Inc.; The Union County Foundation; Dominion Homes; Partners in Progress (the hospital’s employee giving group) and Memorial’s Development Council.

I can think of no better way to do that than taking the lead in supporting Memorial Hospital.”
