Tools for the press.

To request an interview with a physician, staff member, or patient at Memorial Hospital of Union County, please contact Melanie Ziegler, Director of Marketing, Communications and Development at (937) 578-2266. For urgent media requests, please call (614) 425-3185. We are happy to work with you and accommodate your request as promptly as possible. Our Marketing and Development Office can help identify physicians, staff or patients appropriate for your release or story, coordinate suitable on-site locations for interviews or conferences, and coordinate any necessary photo shoots at our facility.

To request a logo or other graphics, please contact Jason Hollback at (937) 578-2412.

We require that any journalist or photographer visiting the hospital be escorted by a member of the Marketing and Development Office or Security while on our campus. If you have not set up an appointment, please check in with security inside the Emergency Room entrance. We request that you wear identification of your media affiliation during your time on our campus. Any unescorted members of the media will be stopped by security and asked to go to the Emergency Department lobby until a member of the Marketing and Development Office can be contacted to escort you.

To protect the privacy of our patients under HIPPAA law, the Public Relations team is only able to release a one-word patient condition without signed consent and assuming that the patient has not opted out of the hospital directory. In order to release this statement, the requesting journalist must provide the first and last name of the specific patient(s) in question. Information about a patient who passes away at the hospital will not be released without written consent of next of kin. Please note the official patient conditions, defined by HIPPAA:

Undetermined – Patient awaiting physician assessment.

Good – Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.

Fair – Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.

Serious – Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.

Critical – Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

A signed consent and/or photo release form is required from all patients, (or legal guardians if the patient is under 18) before any interviews, medical information, or photographs will be released.

On occasion, you may wish to take a photo outside Memorial Hospital without notifying hospital staff, such as a photo in which part or all of our campus is the backdrop. Please be sensitive to our patients’ rights and do not photograph or interview patients or their families as they enter or leave our facility without receiving prior approval.

If you are interested in requesting information about Memorial Hospital of Union County that would be considered public record, please contact Human Resources at (937) 578-4042.
