Created in 1996, the award is named for a retired Ohio Hospital Association associate who was highly regarded throughout the healthcare community. Every hospital in the state is invited to nominate one person for the honor, which is unique in recognizing those individuals who work on the front lines of health care.
Thompson began her career in 2008, as a phlebotomy student with Marion Technical College. Soon after receiving her certification, she was hired as a medical assistant in the laboratory where she continues to work today. A mother of three, Thompson balances being an exceptional team member with the duties of motherhood. Amongst staff, she is known as a team player who goes out of her way to assist others in hopes of ultimately creating a positive patient experience, while her patients credit her kind-hearted, genuine, and warm personality.
“Dana has mastered the art of recalling each of her patient’s names and a personal tidbit about their interests,” says Olas A. (Chip) Hubbs, III, FACHE, President and CEO at Memorial. “She makes each of her patients feel as if they are being treated by a member of their own family.”
This June, Thompson will be honored at the Ohio Hospital Association banquet, competing with other hospital nominees for the statewide honor. Nominees are selected because they demonstrate leadership, reflect the values and ideals of Ohio’s health care facilities, go above and beyond the call of duty, and give back to the community.
Memorial Hospital of Union County selected its 2012 Albert E. Dykes Healthcare Worker of the Year nominee, medical assistant Dana Thompson.
