Union County Sheriff’s Office and Memorial Hospital Partner for National DEA Prescription “Take-Back” Day

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Memorial Hospital of Union County to hold a prescription drug “Take-Back”, a national initiative of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), seeking to prevent increased pill abuse and theft.

On Saturday, September 29th, the Sheriff’s Office will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications for destruction from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Sheriff’s Office (221 West Fifth Street, Marysville). The event is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

“We’ve had high turnout at our previous take-back days, indicating this is a much needed program in our community,” says Sheriff Jamie Patton. “Oftentimes, people are unsure of what to do with leftover or expired medication and it can easily fall into the wrong hands. We continue to offer this service because it’s a great opportunity for residents to properly and safely dispose of these items.”

Deputies will be stationed in the Sally Port (garage), with access off of West Sixth Street, and provide convenient drive-thru service. Team members from Memorial Hospital will be on-hand to provide helpful information on safe disposal of appropriate medications at home. Signs will be posted to direct traffic.
