Memorial Hospital has a strong and well established employee wellness program. For over 15 years, Working on Wellness (WOW) has worked to decrease the health risks of employees and enhance their positive health practices, all while empowering them to be conscientious healthcare consumers. To encourage good health and wellbeing, memberships to the hospital’s fitness facility are offered to employees, along with personal training, health coaching, and educational classes. Additional health “perks” include an on-site farmer’s market during the summer, free annual blood work, and a wide variety of healthy menu items in the hospital’s cafeteria.
“Wellness programs create a win-win situation for employees and the employer,” says Deb Stubbs, Health Center Director at Memorial. “It helps employees live a healthy lifestyle and reap the benefits associated with good health, while also allowing businesses to engage employees, increase worker productivity, and minimize health-care costs. We value the health of our employees because they are like family, and it’s our responsibility to lead by example as the leading healthcare provider in our community.”
This recognition is the result of a 75-question online survey developed by a private panel of medical, academic, business, wellness, finance, and statistics professionals. The survey evaluated six areas of corporate wellness: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communications and marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analysis.
