Make sure you can be heard when you can no longer speak for your health care wishes. Advance directives give you the opportunity to complete and sign documents that ensure your medical care will be properly taken care of when you can no longer direct it yourself. You will appoint someone to oversee your health care decisions in the event you no longer can. Completed documents are yours to keep and a copy will be on file at the hospital.
