Laboratory Services

Laboratory tests are diagnostic tools your physician uses to confirm or rule out a suspected illness or disease, track the course of chronic disease or determine the success of prescribed, ongoing medical treatment.

The results of most routine tests are delivered within 48 hours to your physician.

Direct Access Services

In keeping pace with the needs of you and your doctor, Memorial Hospital has broadened the scope of traditional laboratory services. Beyond our accredited on-site hospital laboratory that boasts the very latest in diagnostic techniques and technology, we have opened a patient-ordered lab testing service called Direct Access at our Damascus Road facility.

Direct Access allows you to take control of your health evaluation by offering 25 different lab tests and screens that don’t require an order from your doctor. You just stop in and order your tests. The results are read by our professionals and made available to you within 24 hours. If the results indicate you need medical care, you can set up an appointment with your doctor immediately and take the test results with you—no more waiting for them to be transferred. Some of the tests available through Direct Access include:

  • Blood sugar for monitoring or diagnosing diabetes
  • Hgb A1c and microalbumin for diabetes treatment follow-up
  • Creatinine for kidney problems
  • Cholesterol, triglyceride and HDL for heart disease risk
  • ALT, AST, Alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin for diagnosis of liver disease/hepatitis
  • CBC (complete blood count) for infection, anemia or blood diseases
  • Iron and iron binding tests for anemia
  • Urine drug testing for adults
  • Pregnancy tests, both urine and blood
  • PSA screening for prostate cancer
  • TSH for monitoring thyroid function
  • Occult blood to detect blood in fecal samples and screen for colon cancer
Your results are delivered with a general explanation of the test and the normal expected parameters to help you understand your individual outcome. A board-certified pathologist is available to explain your results and answer any questions you might have about your tests.

Our three draw locations offer in-department registration. Bring along your physician order so we will know exactly which tests are needed.
