Nurse-midwives view childbearing as a normal part of life. They recognize the strength of women and the natural beauty of childbirth.

Certified nurse-midwives are registered nurses who have additional education in midwifery, the care of healthy pregnant women and newborns. They are trained to meet the non-pregnant woman's basic health care needs as well.

A certified nurse-midwife provides complete prenatal care, monitoring the health of the pregnant woman and her baby. She supports couples throughout the labor and delivery process and assists the woman in delivering her baby. While nurse-midwives believe that birth proceeds well on its own, they use medical technology as needed, individualizing care to the patient. This includes the use of ultrasounds, electronic fetal monitoring and medications.

• Postpartum care for new moms

Certified nurse-midwives practice within a healthcare system that provides for consultation and collaboration with physicians as needed. Our nurse-midwives consult with the obstetrician/gynecologists of Marysville OB/GYN.
