Speech and Hearing Services

Being sidelined due to pain, injury or surgery can definitely put a crimp in your lifestyle. The Rehabilitation Services department at Memorial Hospital can help restore, maintain or improve your physical ability, so you can get back to your normal routine.

Once your doctor refers you to our rehabilitation department, our specialized team (which may include a physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist or audiologist) will evaluate and treat your condition.

Our professional staff and services are used to treat everything from arthritis, fractures, strains and sprains, to serious medical conditions like brain or spinal cord injuries, cancer, stroke, speech and language disorders and more. Our job is to make the most dramatic difference we can to improve your quality of life.

Speech and Hearing Therapy
Memorial Hospital's speech therapists provide evaluation and treatment of patients with speech disorders caused by stroke, progressive neurologic disorders, head injury, delays in speech and language development in children, and developmental disorders including

  • Aphasia
  • Apraxia of speech
  • Articulation problems
  • Dysanthria
  • Stuttering
  • Memory/cognitive communication disorder

Speech pathologists provide each patient with a thorough one-on-one evaluation and an individualized diagnostic and treatment plan is developed. The patient's physician then receives a report complete with recommendations for a treatment plan.

Patients with voice disorders caused by abusing the voice, progressive neurologic disorders, psychogenic voice disorders, reflux laryngitis, head and neck cancer, viral infections, intubation and spontaneous vocal conditions from unknown causes are welcomed.

We also provide evaluation and treatment of patients with swallowing disorders caused by stroke, progressive neurologic disorders, dementia, head and neck cancer and laryngectomy. These disorders may include:

  • Aspiration of solids or liquids
  • Choking
  • Dehydration
  • Malnutrition
  • Globus sensation (feeling of a lump in the throat)
Our Audiology (hearing) Department is staffed by a Doctor of Audiology and provides hearing testing on children (ages 4 and up) and adults.  We offer only quality, digital hearing aids in all styles and several price ranges.  Financing is available for the hearing aids. Vestibular testing for the evaluation and treatment of dizziness is also available in our Audiology Department.  We use specialized equipment to determine whether your dizziness is from the inner ear, and we have excellent results in the treatment of this dizziness.  Our audiologist understands the impact that hearing loss and dizziness can have on your life and will work closely with your referring physician to improve your hearing and/or balance problems.
