In an age where healthcare costs are skyrocketing, who would have thought something as simple as a “twig” could help keep them in check. What does a twig have to do with healthcare? At Memorial Hospital, plenty. For over a half century, volunteers of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary have played a vital role in providing much needed medical equipment, furnishings and more. The individual groups within the Auxiliary are called Twigs.
Each Twig’s primary goal is to sponsor fundraising events and to create community awareness of our hospital and the services we provide. The money raised is used exclusively to benefit the patients and their families through the purchase of items like new cardiac monitors, x-ray equipment, furniture, telephones and televisions in patient rooms—just to name a few. In fact, over 50 years ago, one of the first contributions made by the Auxiliary was used toward the construction of Memorial Hospital. Since then, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed by the Auxiliary to finance construction projects and other needs within the hospital and at our extended care facility The Gables of Green Pastures.
The Auxiliary Twigs sponsor several fundraisers each year including raffles, jewelry sales, craft and bake sales and more. Every November the Auxiliary hosts their annual celebration. Returning in 2007 due to popular request, “The Festival of Trees” will be held on November 3rd at Made From Scratch, with an exciting assortment of beautiful trees decorated and donated by our twig members and local designers. Live and silent auctions will also highlight the evening. Sponsorships and donations are received from a wide range of auxiliary supporters which are local businesses and community members.
By joining a Twig or forming a new Twig with your friends, you will discover a genuine purpose in helping others. Give us a call, we would love to help you find the project that best fits your talents.
